Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

In truth, dental checkups and cleanings are the core of preventive dentistry. These visits involve checking your mouth for problems and removing excess plaque. At our office, each includes an oral exam, a few digital X-rays, and an oral cancer screening. The sessions conclude with a quick polishing of your teeth. That way, you can end your appointment with a clean and fresh smile!

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride treatment is an add-on to standard teeth cleanings. It’s a procedure that applies a foam of fluoride to your teeth. (This mineral is the same one used in toothpaste and tap water.) By doing so, it strengthens your tooth enamel and reduces the risk of decay or cavities. Such effects then last for several months at a time. Should you choose the treatment, it'll likely occur at the end of your cleaning.

Nightguards for Bruxism

If you weren’t aware, grinding your teeth at night wears them down. This habit – also known as bruxism – is thus a big risk to your oral health. To address the issue, we can provide you with a custom mouthguard. (Our office can make one with its handy 3D printer!) Wearing it to bed would place a barrier between the rows of teeth. From there, your pearly whites will be better protected from damage.

TMJ Treatment

While it may seem harmless, constant jaw pain is a serious matter. This issue could mean you have a TMJ disorder – dysfunction in your jaw joints. If so, the latter problem could give you headaches, facial soreness, or even bruxism. Fortunately, Dr. Spades can address it with a TMJ treatment. One option is an occlusal splint (small oral appliance worn to bed) that reduces the muscle tension in your face and jaw. Alternatively, we could give you an occlusal adjustment – minor bite alterations that ease the pressure on your TMJ.

Sleep Apnea Treatment

If you struggle to get quality rest and/or have been diagnosed with sleep apnea, Dr. Spades may be able to help using a custom oral appliance as a solution. This will open your airway and ease your apnea symptoms. It’s also effective for those who snore consistently or want a more comfortable alternative to their CPAP.
